John moderated the capital markets panel with:

  • Svitlana Gubriy, Head of indirect real assets, Aberdeen Investments

  • Lee Marshall, Head of Real Estate, LGPS Central

  • Nick Montgomery, Global Head of Real Estate, Schroders

A huge thank you to them for being such excellent commentators on the market.

ULI summit: Defining 'investment-ready’

31st March

Glasgow

John was delighted to participate in the ULI in Scotland summit in Glasgow, "The Roadmap to Investment-Ready Places" on Tuesday. He chaired a discussion on "defining 'investment-ready'" with Samantha Barnett, head of Invest Glasgow representing the public sector view and Bruce Bossom, co-founder of Orion Capital Managers representing the private sector view. This dialogue between the public and private sector is essential, and it was great to have two excellent panellists prepared to share their conversation with a crowded room. John would also like to thank the crowded room for some high-quality audience questions and comments.

AREF Event: Healthcare Real Estate: the case for a defensive asset class in uncertain times

AREF/IPF Event: Annual update on Long-Term Asset Funds (LTAFs)
24th February
London

The legislation for the Long-Term Asset Fund (LTAF) came into effect in 2021, with the first LTAFs achieving regulatory approval in 2023. This seminar was the second annual Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF) / Investment Property Forum (IPF) LTAF update. It was a bit of a reflection on what has happened since the previous update in February last year and what we can look forward to over the next and beyond.

In the Mansion House Accord last May, many of the leading defined contribution (DC) pension providers agreed that by 2030, ten percent of their workplace pension portfolios would be invested in assets that boost the economy, real estate, infrastructure and private equity, half of this to be in the UK. A controversial provision in Pensions Scheme Bill brings the threat of direct intervention by the government if this does not happen. We have also had new LTAFs being announced, most recently Apollo Global Management the week before last announcing regulatory approval to launch two LTAFs targeting private markets and credit, respectively.
John was chair for the discussion, a task made very easy by the excellent panel:

  • Martin D. Dietz, Head of Diversified Strategies, Asset Management, Legal & General

  • Lizzy Buss, Managing Director, Carne Group

  • James Monk, Investment Director, Fidelity

  • Tim Russell, Senior Fund Manager, Private Markets, Aviva Investors
