AREF/IPF Event: Annual update on Long-Term Asset Funds (LTAFs)

The legislation for the Long-Term Asset Fund (LTAF) came into effect in 2021, with the first LTAFs achieving regulatory approval in 2023. This seminar was the second annual Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF) / Investment Property Forum (IPF) LTAF update. It was a bit of a reflection on what has happened since the previous update in February last year and what we can look forward to over the next and beyond.

 

In the Mansion House Accord last May, many of the leading defined contribution (DC) pension providers agreed that by 2030, ten percent of their workplace pension portfolios would be invested in assets that boost the economy, real estate, infrastructure and private equity, half of this to be in the UK. A controversial provision in Pensions Scheme Bill brings the threat of direct intervention by the government if this does not happen. We have also had new LTAFs being announced, most recently Apollo Global Management the week before last announcing regulatory approval to launch two LTAFs targeting private markets and credit, respectively.

This is the Urban Land Institute’s flagship UK event. John assisted with the capital markets elements of the programme including the capital markets roundtable. He will be writing up the conclusions of the roundtable, which will be presented at the ULI UK annual capital markets forum to take place in April. Details will be available shortly.
