K&L Gates LLP: Annual Real Estate Breakfast Seminar
15th September
John moderated the annual K&L Gates “back-to-school” seminar with its discussion of the state of the market.
Sabina Reeves, Chief Economist at CBRE Investment Management, very articulately set out her views on the market, after which she was joined by Gareth McCarter and Christopher Swallow of K&L Gates for the panel discussion. There was lively participation from the audience.

The key points were:
-
The huge impact of geo-politics in a post-satire world;
-
In a high-interest world, what is the future of core real estate? What is the case for investing in debt rather than equity?
-
The EU (without the UK) is the most attractive market, with Italy looking the most politically stable and economically attractive;
-
There is huge variety in all asset types and locations. Buying or building “best-in-class” is the route to success. Quality is key.
-
Everything is operational, but there is a particular interest in niche sectors that are even more operational;
-
Embrace dislocation – one man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity.
